Hunkered Down & 11 Ideas for Making the Most of It ❄️

Hey Reader

If you’re anywhere near this Arctic blast, chances are you’re layered up, hunkered down, and negotiating with your thermostat like it’s a hostile foreign power.

Since the weather has officially told us to stay put and stay warm, we thought we’d share a few bOlder-approved ideas for passing the time — the kind that feel good now and set you up well for what comes next.

Start simple.

1) Sit on the floor while you scroll your phone — or better yet, read something that actually meets you where you are.
Our newest article on Midlife Transitions names the changes many of us are navigating all at once. If you’re feeling a strange mix of restlessness and relief, this one tends to land:

2) While you’re still on the floor, stretch a little. Nothing heroic. Just enough to remind your body you still live there.

3) Feeling an urge to “do something” but not everything?
Get rid of some crap. Start in your sock drawer. Quit while you’re ahead. Victory counts.

4) Make a pot of soup — not from a recipe, but from whatever you can find in the freezer, fridge, or pantry. Cold weather food doesn’t need to be fancy. It just needs to be warm.

4.5) Between stirring and simmering, take five minutes to move. Not a workout. Just movement.

We recently shared research showing that even five minutes a day can make a real difference over time. It’s oddly motivating in the most reasonable way.

5) Kids still live at home? Re-watch their favorite childhood movie. You’ll remember more than you expect — and probably feel something you didn’t plan on.

6) Play cards like our folks used to. No screens. No leaderboard. Just shuffling, dealing, and talking.

7) Keep an eye on your Ring doorbell for kids looking to shovel snow. Let’s encourage work.
Or put a note on the door saying you’re hiring — and that they should wait or call you. Old school still works.

8) If you’re thinking about “getting healthier… eventually,” browse our Getting Healthy Starter Kit on Amazon and plan for tomorrow — not Monday, not next month. Just tomorrow.

9) Make hot chocolate for delivery drivers who are still out there while we hunker down — or leave out hand warmers. Small kindnesses feel bigger in the cold.

10) And before the weekend slips by, text or call someone you miss. They’re probably home and missing you too.

11) If you want more thoughtful reads while the weather does its thing, our full article library is always here when you need it:

Cold snaps have a way of slowing everything down — including us. That’s not a failure. It’s an invitation.

Stay warm. Stay curious. Stay human.

We’re glad you’re here.

Forever Bold. Never Old.
